Transformative Insight

Welcome to the Center for Justice Research’s Public Scholarship page. Our mission at the Center is to conduct rigorous, objective research on critical issues related to justice, equity, and reform in the criminal legal system. We believe it is essential to make our findings accessible and to engage in public discourse to help inform evidence-based policies and practices that are culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and attentive to the socioeconomic status and class dimensions of justice involvement. On this page, you will find a curated selection of our research translated for a general audience.

This includes policy briefs, fact sheets, opinion pieces, interviews, and multimedia content from our expert team of interdisciplinary scholars. Our public scholarship aims to share reliable data, analyze current challenges, highlight promising solutions, and broaden the conversation around building a more fair, effective, and equitable justice system for all. We recognize the importance of cultural responsivity in our work, seeking to understand and address the unique needs and experiences of diverse communities impacted by the justice system. As thought leaders in the field, we strive to not only advance research but also to shape the discourse and drive meaningful change.

Our scholarship is informed by a deep understanding of the complex trauma often experienced by justice-involved individuals and communities, and we advocate for trauma-informed approaches in policy and practice. We also critically examine and work to dismantle the structural and ideological barriers that perpetuate inequities in the justice system and society at large. In an era marked by the proliferation of misinformation, we are committed to countering false narratives and providing accurate, research-based information to the public. We understand the detrimental impact that misinformation can have on public perceptions, policy decisions, and the lives of those affected by the justice system.

Through our public scholarship, we aim to serve as a reliable source of knowledge and to equip individuals and communities with the tools to critically evaluate information related to justice issues. We invite you to explore the resources on this page, share them with others, and join us in leveraging knowledge in the pursuit of justice.
