Welcome to our new Leaders in Equitable Evaluation and Diversity (LEEAD) Scholar, Dr. Kimberly Harris
Dr. Kimberly Harris (Kim) is a social science evaluator and researcher conducting research, evaluation and assessment with a social justice lens. She is trained in culturally competent research and evaluation approaches. Kim is skilled in mixed, qualitative, and quantitative approaches – including quasi-experimental methodologies. Her independent research projects include: postsecondary decision-making, workforce development, social capital, cultural capital, and student learning outcomes. Much of her work is framed by a social justice and cultural relevance lens.
Kim has served as an adjunct professor in the doctoral program in leadership studies at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technological State University (NC A&T) in Greensboro, NC where she taught research methods and design and qualitative methods. She also taught in the master’s program for human development and services where she taught statistics and research methods, research design, and applied research. Her previous experiences include being a Business and Economics Professor, where she worked with the federal prison population for over five years. She has over a decade of experience working with adult learners in the area of Workforce Development.
She earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. One was a Bachelor of Arts in economics and the other was a Bachelor of Arts in African/African American studies. She earned an MBA concentrating in trust and wealth management from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC and the Ph.D. in education research and policy analysis from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.
Kimberly is a Leaders in Equitable Evaluation and Diversity (LEEAD) scholar, which is an Annie E. Casey Foundation funded program designed to increase diversity in the field of research and evaluation, ultimately improving the knowledge base and makes for better science and social innovation. The LEEAD program seeks to increase the field's diversity by developing pipelines of leaders from communities that are underrepresented and who are committed to culturally responsive and equitable evaluation.
Kim is a co-author for an article entitled, “The Online Environment’s Adverse Effect on the Sustainability of the Retail Workforce”, to be published in a special issue on sustainability in the Journal of Global Scholars of Marketing Science (JGSMS). She is also a co-author of “The Proliferating Singles’ Population and Its Impact on a Transformative Marketing Landscape,” published in a special issue of the Journal of Managerial Issues last year. She has also published in the Journal of Negro Education and Science Education. She holds memberships in the Association of Institutional Research, American Evaluation Association, American Educational Research Association, and the American Psychological Association.
